Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP, part of the Avangrid family, seeks a Lead Engineer in Electric System Engineering to drive protection design for transmission and substation systems. You will ensure compliance with NESC, FERC, NERC, NPCC, NYISO, ISO-NE, NY PSC and ME/CT PUC standards across CMP, NYSEG, RG&E, UI.

You will set policies, advance SCADA/HMI/RTU networking, lead audits, mentor engineers, and travel to sites as needed to keep systems safe and reliable.

Qualifications

• 7 years of experience in Protection & Control Engineering or related discipline.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control and Automation Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Advanced knowledge of power system analysis and fundamentals of equipment protection.
• Advanced knowledge in communication protocols: DNP, MMS, Modbus, IRIG-B, NTP, SNMP.
• Advanced knowledge of serial and ethernet networking: RS-232/485, OSI model, TCP, UDP, IP, VLAN.
• Familiarity with national and international standards, regulations and compliance for power system protection.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain standards for transmission and distribution substations control and automation system design.
• Review and approve work of engineering contractors.
• Define, maintain, and update company processes to ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.
• Define and update internal processes and performance indicators.
• Audit internal processes and supporting evidentiary documentation for compliance.
• Monitor and manage projects associated with corrective action plans.
• Act as subject matter expert during audits and audits participation.
• Represent the company on regional and national committees and with auditors.
• Mentor lower-level engineers and cross-department staff.
• Travel to worksites as needed.
