Job summary

Ginkgo Bioworks is seeking an Associate Director of Environmental Health and Safety to lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive EH&S programs across sites. You will build scalable programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and work cross-functionally to optimize laboratory safety and infrastructure.

The role requires a 4+ year track record in EH&S within laboratory or manufacturing settings, with chemical hygiene expertise and ability to drive continuous improvement in

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Science, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or related field.
• 4+ years of EH&S experience in lab or manufacturing.
• Knowledge of Chemical Hygiene and regulatory environments such as CLIA or FDA.

Responsibilities

• Regulatory permits management (Local, State, Federal) including CLIA standards.
• Support EH&S Management System and event/CAPA processes.
• Lead authoring and maintenance of EH&S programs for the organization.
• Support site leaders to progress EH&S programs with compliance metrics.
• Develop and update training materials and deliver trainings (in-person and online).
• Direct site EH&S Committees and deploy global safety standards.
• Expand EH&S programs to new facilities with site-specific manuals.
• Develop internal inspection and audit programs for lab safety and inventory reconciliation.
• Collaborate with Facilities, Shipping, and Technical Management for compliance.
