Job summary

WestEd is seeking a Senior Editorial Manager to lead the editorial team and ensure the agency’s high-stakes products meet rigorous quality standards. This hands-on role combines editing, project management, and leadership to drive timely, evidence-based publications.

You will guide a team of editors, manage editorial intake, and collaborate with designers, proofreaders, and accessibility experts to deliver clear, accessible content on deadline.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Minimum 8 years in roles with developmental editing of nonfiction.
• Experience supervising and leading teams.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide developmental editing on high-visibility, complex publications.
• Uphold standards for accurate, evidence-based content.
• Diagnose structural problems and improve readability.
• Collaborate with designers, proofreaders, and accessibility experts.
• Identify accessibility issues and improve inclusivity.
• Lead project intake and scope for new products.
• Coordinate timelines and resource planning with project staff.
• Manage and mentor the editorial team.
• Guide AI usage in editorial work.
• Contribute to department strategy as part of Communications leadership.
