Job summary

Physics Today, published by the American Institute of Physics, seeks a Senior Editor to lead the editing team and shape long-form science storytelling for a broad scientific audience. You will mentor editors and writers, develop multiplatform strategies, and work with the Visual Experience team to elevate content, serving more than 150,000 monthly website visitors and 100,000 magazine readers.

A PhD is preferred and 8+ years of science writing and editing experience are expected, with a

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree, PhD preferred, in physics or closely related field, or equivalent knowledge of the physical-sciences community.
  • At least 8 years of professional science writing and editing experience, preferably at a scientific publication.
  • Mentoring/supervision skills and ability to guide editors and writers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Physics Today’s editing team in substantive and line editing of longer-form content.
  • Provide editorial oversight for editors and writers on complex science stories.
  • Develop, implement, and refine multiplatform editorial strategy.
  • Identify and evaluate noteworthy developments across physical-science fields.
  • Collaborate with Visual Experience and other teams to enhance reader experience with visuals and multimedia.
  • Author content as needed with strong narrative and technical skills.
  • Mentor junior staff on writing and editing.
  • Foster a creative, idea-friendly environment and improve content relevance.
