Job summary

Fastly is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Edge Delivery team responsible for the Varnish-based engine, VCL compiler, and edge caching systems across Fastly’s global platform.

You will manage a distributed team of 15 senior engineers, partner with product managers, drive roadmaps into actionable projects, and focus on uptime, performance, and talent growth while maintaining high standards under pressure.

• Proven track record in incident response and on-call support.
• Ability to translate roadmaps into concrete engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage a distributed team working on Varnish internals and developing new VCL features.
• Organize the team into sustainable structures for scalable operations.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, provide feedback, and support career growth.
• Partner with product managers and your director to break roadmaps into projects.
• Unblock technical issues and maintain high uptime and performance.
• Participate in incident response and triage outages under pressure.
• Keep the team focused on core metrics like cache hit ratio, throughput, memory efficiency, and stability.
