Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Company LP (MPC) in Carson, CA, seeks a Lead Designer (Electrical & Instrumentation) to develop cost-effective project designs and precise instrumentation drawings. You will use AutoCAD, Raster Design, and SPI to deliver construction documentation and ensure alignment with refinery standards.

The role requires 8+ years in design within refinery or related industries, strong CAD skills, and ability to work onsite on 9/80 or 5/40 schedules plus after-hours support for TAR annual

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (before start date).
• At least 8 years of design experience in an engineering dept.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Proficient with AutoCAD and Raster Design.
• Able to wear PPE and perform tasks in the field; hair drug test and physical.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Legally authorized to work in the US without VISA sponsorship.
• Travel requirement 5% or less.
• Able to work onsite and support TAR on an annual basis.
• Core business hours 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Responsibilities

• Develops cost-effective project designs and routing decisions.
• Creates bid/construction packages using CAD software (SI, Plant 3D).
• Develops Bills of Materials for cost estimation.
• Gathers data via site visits, field verification, and historical drawings.
• Performs field visits to verify instrument termination points and spares.
• Manages multiple programs and ensures schedules and milestones.
• Develops and updates instrumentation drawings (AutoCAD, Raster Design, SPI).
• Identifies instrument cable routing, termination, and DCS I/O connections.
• Produces Instrumentation construction packages from concept to IFC and as-built.
