Job summary

Vanguard Laboratory in Olympia, WA seeks an experienced Senior Drinking Water Analytical Chemist to expand our drinking-water testing capabilities. The role combines routine analyses with method implementation, verification, validation, and expansion of the accredited scope, including documentation and QC development.

The successful candidate will perform routine testing, design and implement EPA-approved methods, and take ownership of expanding the laboratory's scope while ensuring data quality

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in analytical chemistry, chemistry, environmental chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science, or a related field.
• At least three years of directly relevant professional experience testing drinking water or environmental water samples.
• Hands-on experience performing EPA drinking-water methods or other approved compliance methods.
• Strong wet-bench skills, including solution preparation, volumetric work, dilutions, titrations, digestions, extractions, filtration, and QC sample preparation.
• Experience preparing and analyzing standards, blanks, duplicates, spikes, fortified samples, and laboratory control samples.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate current drinking-water scope, instrumentation, client needs and opportunities.
• Lead methods from feasibility to routine implementation and accredited scope addition.
• Develop SOPs, worksheets, calculation templates, QC criteria and data-review procedures.
• Perform verification or validation studies, including demonstrations of capability and QC.
• Train and mentor analysts and transfer methods into production.
• Meet turnaround requirements while maintaining data quality.
