Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Lead Drilling Fluids Engineer to lead design and management of drilling fluid systems for complex projects near Rustenburg, North West. You will guide a team of fluids engineers and technicians, set standards, and drive innovation in drilling fluid technology.

You will collaborate with drilling engineers and geologists to optimize operations while ensuring safety and environmental compliance across projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years in drilling fluids engineering with lead/supervisory experience.
• Proven expertise in designing and managing water-based, oil-based, and synthetic drilling fluids.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage comprehensive drilling fluid programs for specific well objectives.
• Provide technical leadership to drilling fluids engineers and mud loggers.
• Oversee procurement, testing, and QC of drilling fluid additives and materials.
• Analyze drilling fluid performance data and troubleshoot operational issues.
• Ensure safe and environmentally sound management of drilling fluids and cuttings disposal.
• Collaborate with drilling engineers, geologists, and stakeholders to optimize operations.
• Conduct technical training for junior staff and prepare detailed reports and recommendations.
• Stay current with drilling fluid tech and advocate appropriate adoption.
