Job summary

Rinker Design Associates (RDA) is seeking a Drainage Engineer with 7–12 years of experience to join our Transportation team in Fredericksburg, VA. You will analyze and design drainage and stormwater systems for roadway projects, collaborating with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant, and sustainable solutions.

Take ownership of technical work, mentor junior staff, and contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 7–12 years of drainage, stormwater, or water resources experience.
• Professional Engineer license required or Virginia licensure by reciprocity.
• Experience with VDOT projects and familiarity with the VDOT Drainage Manual.
• Knowledge of FEMA, DEQ, and AASHTO standards.
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for transportation projects.
• Prepare drainage reports and stormwater calculations.
• Design storm sewer systems, culverts, channels, and erosion controls.
• Develop plans and models using HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer.
• Coordinate with managers, clients, and regulatory agencies.
• Ensure designs comply with regulations (VDOT, DEQ, FEMA, local).
• Participate in field investigations and provide construction support.
• Collaborate with roadway, traffic, and environmental teams.
• Assist with proposals and guide junior staff.
