Optimum in New York is seeking a Senior DNS Engineer – SRE to own strategic architecture for global DNS infrastructure. You will drive automated, self-healing systems and mentor junior staff while aligning with security and reliability goals.

The role emphasizes carrier-grade DNS, DoH/DoT privacy, and continuous improvement across product, security, and service assurance teams. You will shape engineering culture and ensure resilient, scalable name services for millions of users.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 5+ years in networking or systems engineering, with at least 3 years focused on SRE principles within a high-scale production environment
• DNS Authority: configure and maintain at least three of BIND, Unbound, PowerDNS, AWS Route 53, or Azure DNS
• Advanced Networking: TCP/IP, BGP (Anycast), and DoH/DoT
• Software Engineering: Python, Go, or Bash with automation
• Observability Stack: Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry experience

Responsibilities

• Lead the high-level design and evolution and operation of global, multi-site DNS architectures.
• Architect automated, self-healing DNS platforms with Anycast, multi-provider redundancy, and automated failover.
• Engage with DNS and infrastructure vendors to align roadmaps with reliability and security goals.
• Oversee lifecycle of DNS platforms including automated deployments, hardware refreshes, and capacity planning.
• Define and enforce standards for DNS records, DNSSEC, and traffic steering policies.
• Define Service Level Objectives and error budgets for core DNS services, turning strategic design into operational reality.
• Lead the creation of automation frameworks using Ansible, Terraform, or Kubernetes operators.
• Analyze and optimize performance through monitoring with Prometheus, Grafana, and dnstap.
