Job summary

Optimum is seeking a Senior DNS Engineer – SRE to OWN the strategic architecture, global scalability, and reliability of the DNS infrastructure powering our ISP and core network services.

You will mentor staff, drive the technical roadmap, and combine IP networking with security to maintain sub-millisecond performance for millions of users while advancing DoH/DoT privacy and resilience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 5+ years in networking or systems engineering, with at least 3 years focused on SRE principles within a high-scale production environment
• DNS authority: expert-level experience with BIND, Unbound, PowerDNS, AWS Route 53, or Azure DNS
• Advanced networking: TCP/IP, BGP (Anycast), and encrypted transport protocols (DoH/DoT)
• Software engineering: Python, Go, or Bash with automation tooling
• Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry

Responsibilities

• Lead global DNS architecture design and operation across multiple sites with Anycast routing and automated failover
• Own design and evolution of high-availability DNS architectures with multi-provider redundancy
• Engage with DNS vendors to drive roadmaps aligned with reliability and security goals
• Oversee full lifecycle of DNS platforms including automated deployments and capacity planning
• Define and enforce DNSSEC and traffic steering policies to optimize latency
• Establish SLOs and error budgets for core name services
• Develop automation frameworks to replace manual interventions with tested workflows
• Tune Linux kernel for extreme network throughput and analyze DNS logs for issues
• Build observability: Prometheus, Grafana, dnstap for latency and error insights
