Job summary
Massachusetts Department of Transportation in Boston seeks a Civil Engineer V to lead maintenance engineering efforts, supervise a diverse staff, and ensure safe, efficient highway operations. This role requires extensive civil engineering experience, strong supervisory skills, and the ability to coordinate across districts, accept emergencies, and review plans and cost estimates.
The position includes a signing bonus of up to $5,000 and competitive state benefits.
Qualifications
- Six years of full-time civil engineering experience, with four years in a professional capacity and two years in supervision.
- Substitutions allowed: Associate degree -> up to 1 year, Bachelor's -> up to 2 years, Graduate degree -> up to 3 years and 1 year of B experience.
- Possession of Massachusetts Class D Driver's License may be required.
Responsibilities
- Assist District Maintenance Engineer with supervision of ~30 staff and a labor force of ~90.
- Manage labor across shifts; set schedules and ensure safety and productivity.
- Review and approve work orders, purchases, and overtime allocations.
- Coordinate with Fleet for equipment needs and maintain records of maintenance work.
