Job summary

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) seeks a Senior Distribution System Engineer in Distribution Planning to support advanced analysis and planning of the electric distribution system. You will be a technical expert, mentoring others and collaborating across departments to drive safety, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

You will evaluate system performance, forecast load growth, and develop capital and O&M plans.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
5+ years of progressively responsible experience in planning, design, and operation of electric utility distribution systems.
Desirable: Professional Engineer (PE) license in California.

Responsibilities

Performs professional technical and analytical functions in analyzing the performance of an assigned distribution system area and identifying corrective actions needed to ensure that the distribution system is configured to meet SMUD’s short-, medium- and long-range needs in an efficient, cost-effective, and safe manner.
Leads complex distribution system planning and design, monitors system planning, and develops maintenance philosophies and safety practices.
Provides high-level technical review of projects, analyzes system performance and forecasting, and develops capital and O&M work plans.
Ensures safe and reliable operation, participates in system protection studies, and mentors staff.
