Job summary

ROCHESTER GAS & ELEC CORP, based in Rochester, NY, seeks a Principal Engineer - Distribution Planning to independently lead complex studies, mentor engineers, and shape long-term system strategy. You will drive NWA initiatives, capital planning, and stakeholder engagement while supporting regulatory proceedings.

The role requires a strong technical background in distribution planning, DER integration, and cross‑functional leadership, with experience presenting to executives and regulators.

Qualifications

• BSEE required; advanced degree preferred (MSEE) and PE license preferred.
• 10+ years in distribution planning, reliability, or DER integration.
• Experience with regulatory bodies and industry groups preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead highly complex distribution system studies (voltage, thermal, N-1, reliability, resiliency, power quality).
• Mentor engineers and lead cross-functional initiatives; guide stakeholders and regulators.
• Represent the organization in industry groups and regulatory proceedings; provide expert testimony when needed.
• Support storm restoration efforts and partner with regulatory and policy teams on planning methodologies.
