Job summary

Cloudflare seeks a Senior Software Engineer to work across the database stack, from query planning to durable storage. You will influence consistency, durability, and latency guarantees for customer apps while addressing concurrency and failure scenarios with deterministic testing.

You will define how queries read and modify data, ensure safe upgrades, and mentor other engineers in concurrent, durable systems across the service.

Qualifications

• Ownership of a database or storage system from architecture through production.
• Understanding of query execution, indexing, and durable state behavior.
• Experience with concurrency control, isolation, replication, and recovery.
• Proficiency in Rust, Go, or C++ for production software.

Responsibilities

• Improve query planning and execution, including index selection and data access patterns.
• Build durable write paths and determine when changes become visible after commits.
• Design deterministic simulations for rare failure orderings.
• Plan stateful upgrades with staged rollout, failover, and safe recovery.
• Participate in on-call rotation and incident response to keep services healthy.
• Own major changes from design through production and coordinate across teams.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and debugging of concurrency and durability issues.
