Job summary

Variety Wholesalers, Inc is seeking a Sr. Dispatcher to coordinate and manage driver schedules, ensuring on-time pickups and deliveries. You will act as a communication hub between drivers, clients, and suppliers, dispatching staff, scheduling deliveries, and maintaining accurate shipment records.

The role requires 2+ years in planning/dispatch, solid knowledge of Hours-of-Service rules, and proficiency with TMW, PeopleNet, and JDA. On-site in Newnan, GA with competitive benefits.

Job description

The Sr. Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and managing the schedules of truck drivers, ensuring timely pickup and delivery of goods by acting as a communication hub between drivers, clients, and suppliers, scheduling deliveries, monitoring routes, and resolving any issues that may arise during transport, all while maintaining accurate documentation of shipments and driver logs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

• Receive & Dispatch: Answer calls (emergency/non-emergency), create work orders, and dispatch appropriate field staff or vehicles.
• Experience: 2 plus years of planning and/or dispatch experience, but they need to be versed in both.
• Planning entails building efficient routes, assigning the drivers based on Hours-of-Service regulations. Routes need to include reverse logistics which means determining the best pickup point (vendor) to match to the outbound load (store delivery). This also involves scheduling delivery and pickup appointments by understanding the timing involved.
• Dispatching is the day-to-day function of ensuring the drivers execute the routes by tracking progress and dealing with issues that arise (unload delays or mechanical issues).
• Additional experience: Has dispatched 10+ CDL Class A drivers executing OTR and local deliveries.
• Has complete understanding of Hours-of-Service rules and regulations
• Versed in dispatch software (ideally TMW) and Telematics (electronic logs)
• Coordinate & Route: Manage daily schedules, assign jobs, optimize routes, and adjust in real-time for delays or issues.
• Communication: Act as liaison between customers, field teams, and management, relaying vital info via radio/phone/computer.
• Monitor & Track: Use mapping software and systems to monitor unit locations and status.
• Problem-Solve: Address urgent issues, resolve conflicts, and provide solutions calmly.
• Maintain Records: Log calls, update databases, and keep detailed records of operations.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Skills: Excellent communication, multitasking, problem-solving, organization, decision-making, and ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Tech: Proficiency with radio, phone systems, dispatch software (TMW, People Net, JDA), and mapping tools.
• Education: High school diploma is often required; some roles prefer logistics/related degrees.
