Job summary

The City of New York's NYC Parks department seeks a Civil Engineer to manage a portfolio of historic and modern structures across the five boroughs. The role leads engineering staff, oversees design and bid processes, and ensures compliance with building authorities.

Based at Olmsted Center in Queens, you will coordinate with architects, contractors and stakeholders to deliver safe, sustainable public spaces and waterfront structures while upholding best practices and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
• A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License. Current NYS registration must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
• A Master's degree in civil engineering may substitute for one year of the required experience.
• In addition to above, at least one year within the last three years as a major contributor or project leader on a complex project requiring additional expertise.

Responsibilities

• Manage engineering staff by assigning projects, monitoring workloads and performance; approve timesheets and leave requests.
• Direct and manage workload within structural engineering scope.
• Ensure projects are designed and filed with authorities per best practices.
• Ensure timely completion of design projects and transmittal of bid documents.
• Facilitate rapid problem-solving during construction and address safety concerns.
• Coordinate intra- and inter-agency projects (design coordination, permits, approvals).
• Serve as Agency-wide technical consultation point person in the engineering field.
• Attend meetings with architects, landscape architects, consultants, contractors and stakeholders.
