Job summary

NYC Parks is seeking a Civil Engineer to manage a portfolio of historic and new structures, waterfronts, retaining walls, and related projects across New York City. You will oversee engineering staff, assign work, monitor progress, and ensure designs are filed with the Department of Buildings and other authorities.

Candidates must hold a New York State Professional Engineer license, have four years of civil engineering experience, and may substitute a master's degree for one year of experience.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of full-time civil engineering experience.
• A valid New York State Professional Engineer license.
• Master's degree in civil engineering may substitute for one year of experience.
• Special Note: for Levels II/III, at least one year in last three years as major contributor or project leader on a complex project.

Responsibilities

• Manage engineering staff by assigning projects and approving timesheets.
• Direct workload for structural engineering within Parks’ purview.
• Ensure designs meet best practices and filed with DOB or authorities.
• Ensure timely completion of design projects and bid documents.
• Facilitate rapid problem-solving during construction.
• Coordinate intra- and inter-agency projects, permits and presentations.
• Serve as Agency-wide technical consultation point person.
• Attend meetings with architects, landscape architects, consultants, and stakeholders.
