Job summary

Amgen in the United States seeks a Senior Director, Small Molecule Drug Discovery in Inflammation Discovery to lead early inflammation research for small molecule programs from target identification through preclinical assessment to IND/FIH.

The role provides strategic and scientific leadership across the Inflammation Small Molecule Research portfolio, defining target- and portfolio-level strategies and leading matrixed teams.

Qualifications

• Doctorate degree in immunology or a related field with leadership experience.
• At least 5 years in immunology discovery research and 5 years of people management.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, programs, and resource planning.
• Strong track record of publications and scientific leadership.

Responsibilities

• Develop integrated discovery strategies linking target biology to modality selection for small molecules.
• Provide scientific and organizational leadership for inflammation programs.
• Oversee advancement of pipeline programs through key decision points with robust data packages.
• Represent Inflammation Research in governance forums and portfolio strategy discussions.
• Identify and evaluate new therapeutic opportunities including external collaborations.
