FTI Consulting’s Corporate Finance & Restructuring practice seeks a seasoned accounting professional in New York to lead complex GAAP reporting for mortgage loans, debt/equity securities, and derivatives. The role involves reviewing financial statements, advising on accounting elections, and coordinating with auditors and tax teams.

The candidate will oversee month-end close, ensure compliance with US GAAP and SEC requirements, and mentor staff across engagements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting or similar field.
• 8+ years of experience in GAAP accounting for mortgage loans, debt/equity securities and derivatives.
• Knowledge of portfolio accounting, including loan securitizations and securities accounting.

Responsibilities

• Review and assist with the preparation of monthly accounting packages for portfolios consisting of residential mortgage loans, commercial real estate loans and debt/equity securities.
• Oversee preparation of and review of financial statements, including footnote disclosures, under historical US GAAP and under the Investment Company Guide for private companies and to the SEC on Forms 10-K and 10-Q for public companies and necessary support.
• Advise clients on accounting elections and accounting treatment alternatives for investments, derivatives, and securitizations/borrowings, and draft or review GAAP memoranda.
• Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of all financial reporting.
• Assist auditors with annual audits and interim work.
• Interact with client staff and third-party providers regularly.
• Review and manage month-end close processes and reconciliations.
• Oversee and manage preparation of partner capital statements and capital calls/distributions.
