Job summary

CREW Carbon, Inc. is seeking a Head of R&D and Lab Ops to act as the technical authority for CREW's wastewater process optimization and decarbonization solutions. The role centers on translating complex data into rigorous internal insights and driving science into deployed solutions.

You will lead lab and R&D teams, mentor members, and work with cross-functional teams to define scientific priorities while supporting MRV and deployment scale across facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Chemical, Civil or related field.
• 10+ years in biological wastewater treatment process engineering.
• Strong understanding of nutrient removal, solids handling, pH and alkalinity control.
• Experience leading a technical team and mentoring others.
• Exceptional technical writing; translate process science to defensible docs.
• Experience with BioWin, SUMO, GPS-X or ASM libraries.
• Familiar with analytical methods (IC, TIC, ICP) and data interpretation.
• PE license is a plus; growth mindset and ownership culture.

Responsibilities

• Serve as CREW's senior technical authority on BNR, aqueous chemistry, and process performance.
• Analyze data and drive process/product decisions using mass/energy balances.
• Lead and mentor lab/R&D team, set protocols and data standards.
• Translate lab-scale findings into scalable improvements for deployment.
• Collaborate with Platform and Technical Solutions teams on data-driven decisions.
• Support MRV methodology through quantification and reporting.
• Provide root-cause analysis for field issues and feed fixes back to R&D.
• Author technical reports and internal R&D documentation.
