Job summary

YMCA of the USA in Rhode Island is seeking a Senior Program Director to lead membership growth and wellness programming. You will guide staff, volunteers, and partnerships to deliver high-quality services while driving financial performance in alignment with the YMCA mission.

The role emphasizes staff development, program leadership, and cross-department collaboration, with a focus on inclusive community impact and sustainable enrollment growth across branches.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Business Admin, Marketing, Recreation Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in a YMCA or other nonprofit organization in aquatics, health & wellness, membership, or related program management.
• Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience, including staff and volunteer leadership.
• Proven success in staff leadership, program development, member/customer service, and building relationships with members, staff, and partners.
• Experience managing program budgets, marketing and PR efforts, fundraising initiatives, and cross-sector collaborations.
• Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and communication skills, including public speaking and data-informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Lead membership and program sales efforts to achieve enrollment, retention, and revenue targets.
• Promote a welcoming, inclusive environment aligned with the YMCA mission.
• Establish and maintain service standards across membership, front desk, and wellness operations.
• Resolve member concerns promptly with sound judgment and conflict-management.
• Develop and implement annual operating plans to support growth and financial goals.
• Analyze data on membership, participation, sales, and finances to guide planning.
• Ensure proper staffing, scheduling, and training to support high-quality service and sales discussions.
• Collaborate with marketing and development teams on outreach and engagement initiatives.
• Serve as a staff liaison to volunteer committees and advisory groups.
• Provide leadership to the YMCA Annual Support Campaign and philanthropic initiatives.
• Communicate YMCA mission, policies, and values to all stakeholders.
• Demonstrate understanding of YMCA focus areas: Youth Development, Healthy Living, Social Responsibility.
• Participate in branch and Association-wide initiatives.
