Job summary

Design West Engineering, Inc. in San Bernardino, CA seeks a Director of Mechanical to lead the mechanical design of large-scale projects—HVAC, plumbing, and sustainability analyses using Energy Pro, Trace 700, and related tools.

The role includes developing design standards, budgeting, mentoring a 4–6 person team, and coordinating with Project Managers to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery with strong QA/QC. Travel is up to 10% domestically within Southern California.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5 years progressive experience in mechanical design and related occupations, including leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Leads development of firm-wide mechanical design standards and oversees code updates.
• Prepares budgets and fee proposals for large, complex projects.
• Provides mentorship and technical training to a team of engineers and designers.
• Oversees Project Managers to ensure timely completion within budget and quality constraints, with QA/QC.
• Drives business development by leading client proposals and pursuing new opportunities.
• Conducts research to integrate innovative mechanical solutions for efficiency and sustainability.
• Supervises employees, trains and develops the team; may evaluate personnel.
