Job summary

The IAPMO Group is hiring a Director of Government Relations to join our team. This role focuses on state and local government affairs across the Midwest and other jurisdictions.

You will build relationships with policymakers, monitor regulatory developments, and lead advocacy initiatives to advance IAPMO’s codes, standards, and public policy priorities. We seek an experienced professional with strong communication and strategic thinking skills, capable of traveling up to 20%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government Affairs, Communications, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, legislative affairs, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of state and local legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Proven ability to build influential relationships and advocate with government, industry, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, relationship-building, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work across teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute state and local government relations and public policy strategies across assigned jurisdictions.
  • Represent IAPMO and build relationships with policymakers, regulators, government officials, industry organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory, and political developments and identify emerging issues.
  • Lead advocacy efforts, including testimony, public comments, and position statements.
  • Partner across IAPMO to support code adoption, public policy, and priority initiatives.
  • Promote IAPMO’s expertise in codes and standards, testing and certification, water efficiency, sustainability, and public health.
  • Advance adoption and implementation of IAPMO codes and support related policies.
  • Coordinate strategic engagement with policymakers and support Government Relations leadership.
