Job summary

The IAPMO Group is seeking a Director of Government Relations to lead state and local government affairs in the Midwest and other assigned jurisdictions. You will build relationships with policymakers, monitor developments, and drive advocacy programs across codes, health, sustainability, and workforce development.

The role requires strong communication, strategic thinking, and travel up to 20%. This is a full-time role based in the United States with competitive benefits and compensation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
• 5+ years in government relations, public policy, or legislative affairs.
• Strong knowledge of state and local processes.
• Ability to build influential relationships with policymakers and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and strategic thinking.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute state and local government relations strategies across jurisdictions.
• Represent IAPMO with policymakers, regulators, and industry groups.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and identify opportunities.
• Lead advocacy efforts including testimony, comments, and position statements.
• Collaborate across IAPMO to support codes, public policy, and organizational priorities.
• Promote IAPMO codes, standards, and workforce development initiatives.
• Support adoption and implementation of codes in state and local policy.
• Coordinate engagement with policymakers and advise Government Relations leadership.
