Job summary

Dept of State Health Services in Austin seeks a Deputy Director of Government Affairs to provide advanced legislative and consultation services. You will report to the GA director and lead staff in tracking bills, analyses, and reports while coordinating policy communications with agency leadership and the Legislature.

The role requires strategic oversight of short- and long-term plans, strong knowledge of public health law, and the ability to work with executives during legislative sessions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience preparing, reviewing and editing correspondence, reports, presentations, and other documents.
• Extensive experience working with or for members of the Texas Legislature and analyzing legislation.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced legislative services for the GA team and report to the GA director.
• Represent GA and DSHS in external/internal meetings and support agency witnesses.
• Lead bill analysis tracking, reports, and implementation coordination with agency divisions.
• Ensure quality control for reports and related work products and respond to policy inquiries.
• Perform constituent casework on public health issues and work with executive staff.
