Job summary

Capital One is seeking an experienced legal leader to guide the Global Payment Network Legal team. You will advise on legal risks across issuers, acquirers, and alliances, translating complex regulations into practical risk controls and partner terms.

Responsibilities include cross‑functional collaboration, coordinating external counsel, and communicating risk to executives and regulators. This hybrid role requires strong judgment and a growth mindset.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active bar status
• 8+ years as attorney in law firm, government, military JAG, or in-house
• Preferred: 10+ years in law firm/government/in-house and 5+ years in financial services
• 3+ years experience in the payments industry, including AML/fraud risk

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice on network participant risk, including fraud and brand risk
• Translate laws into actionable guidance and develop participant rules to mitigate risk
• Advise on product rollouts, processes, and business priorities
• Manage external counsel and collaborate with Legal, business partners, and stakeholders
• Coordinate presentations on network participant risks for executives and regulators
• Engage with risk and business teams across Capital One
