Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a seasoned Senior Director of Global Operations in the United States to lead Aerospace & Defense operations across multiple functions. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership in global operations within Aerospace & Defense.
  • Understanding of defense acquisition frameworks and export compliance (ITAR, EAR).
  • Proven track record in managing complex supply chains, regulated production environments, and large-scale transformation initiatives.
  • Experience in ERP and business systems integration (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Deltek Costpoint, Teamcenter).
  • Strong familiarity with FAA, DoD, NASA, or other regulatory standards.

  • Build and lead a high-performing global operations team in a matrix structure.
  • Drive global production, logistics, and facility ops to deliver aerospace/defense systems on time, budget, spec.
  • Champion integrity, safety, compliance, and innovation; govern ITAR/AS9100 adherence.
  • Direct strategic sourcing, supplier risk, logistics, and lifecycle sustainment planning.
  • Develop resilient supplier relationships focused on cost containment and tech readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR, DFARS; lead quality mgmt & Lean Six Sigma efforts.
  • Develop scalable manufacturing strategies for rapid NPI ramp-up across global sites.
  • Partner with R&D, engineering, supply chain, and regional ops on product transitions to volume production.
  • Manage NPI risk assessment and mitigation including supply constraints and capacity planning.
  • Align ops capabilities with customer/program needs alongside engineering, PM, contracts, and finance.
  • Support new-business capture through proposals, capacity planning, and capability presentations.
  • Define and manage KPIs for quality, delivery, cost, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Identify and mitigate geopolitical, cybersecurity, and supply chain risks.

Job description

  • Oversee and drive excellence within the Defense Electronics segment across Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Planning, and New Product Introduction functions
  • Drive the long-range strategic planning process for operations in a global organization exceeding $500m in revenue within a shared services/center of excellence model
  • Direct manufacturing operations, including manufacturing, production control, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, equipment engineering, inventory control, purchasing, and shipping/receiving
  • Build and lead a high-performing global operations team within a matrix structure
  • Lead global production, logistics, and facility operations to deliver aerospace and defense systems on time, within budget, and to specification
  • Drive operational strategies aligned with program execution and customer requirements, including government and military contracts
  • Champion integrity, safety, compliance, and innovation

Requirements

  • Security clearance (or ability to obtain) may be required depending on business unit focus
  • Preferred certifications: PMP or Program Management credentials; APICS CPIM/CSCP; Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt
