Job summary

University of California Merced seeks a Director of Energy & Engineering to lead strategic energy initiatives and manage campus energy infrastructure. The role requires oversight of the Central Heating & Cooling Plant, Thermal Energy Storage, and distribution systems to ensure safety, reliability, and cost efficiency.

The Director will drive sustainability and decarbonization efforts, coordinate with capital projects, and develop operating procedures and performance analytics for energy systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related area is required.
• 5 years of related engineering experience.
• Professional Engineering License - Mechanical - CA is required.
• Driver's License required under SB1100.

Responsibilities

• Develops and manages the university's strategic energy initiatives including decarbonization and renewable energy integration.
• Oversees central utilities, building automation systems, and major mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Leads engineering feasibility studies, life cycle cost analyses, and utility master planning.
• Provides technical leadership for major construction, renovation, and system replacement projects.
• Develops emergency response plans for energy and HVAC systems to mitigate service interruptions.
