Job summary

UMass Chan Medical School seeks an Assistant Director of Energy Resources to oversee the Power Plant operations providing steam, chilled water, and electricity for campus facilities and hospital. You will manage staff, coordinate capital plans, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Under the Senior Director, you will supervise engineers and technicians, coordinate external labor, and oversee the plant and utility distribution systems to support resilient campus operations.

Qualifications

• Ten years operating experience in a large modern power plant.
• License as a Massachusetts First or Second Class Stationary Engineer.
• Ability to communicate with unions and university entities.

Responsibilities

• Develop staff training programs for Power Plant operations.
• Lead meetings to share information among staff and management.
• Contribute to short and long-term capital plans for equipment.
• Monitor utility usage and operating expenses across the medical center.
• Supervise engineers, electricians, and technicians in daily activities.
• Coordinate external contracted labor for Power Plant needs.
• Oversee safe operation of a high-pressure power plant and campus steam system.
• Distribute Grid and Plant electricity to campus buildings.
• Maintain spare parts inventory and preventive maintenance programs.
• Manage payment processing of utility invoices and scheduling.
