Job summary

Albertsons Companies in Pleasanton, CA seeks a Senior Director of Data Engineering to lead a 50+ engineer team across data platform, analytics, and intelligence platforms. You will own the multi-year roadmap, drive agentic AI initiatives, ensure data governance, and partner with executives to align data strategy with retail priorities.

The role requires deep expertise in ELT/ETL, cloud data platforms (GCP/Azure), data mesh, and modern data architectures, plus strong leadership and budget

Qualifications

• 15+ years in data engineering or related technical disciplines.
• 8+ years leading data engineering teams.
• 5+ years in senior leadership with large teams (25+ engineers).
• Proven track record building production-grade data platforms at large enterprises.
• Experience owning technology budgets and modernization initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Own multi-year data platform roadmap and architectural evolution.
• Define strategy for agentic AI across engineering lifecycle.
• Oversee data foundations, data products, and governance.
• Deliver enterprise intelligence across core retail functions.
• Drive DataOps, cloud cost optimization, and CI/CD for data.
• Lead 50+ engineers through directors and managers; hire and develop talent.
• Partner with stakeholders to align data strategy with enterprise priorities.
• Translate business intent into governed BI and self-service analytics.
