Job description

Who You’ll Work With

You’ll join Bain’s Texas talent team and serve as a senior people leader for Program Management in either our Dallas or Austin office. You’ll work closely with the Texas Talent Vice President, local and Texas Office Heads, Partners, Team Leads, and other talent stakeholders.

You’ll also manage and collaborate closely with another Program Manager in your local office and partner with Program Managers across our other Texas offices. Your work will be central to serving our clients, developing our people, and advancing Bain’s talent strategy across Texas.

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

As Senior Director, Program Management, you’ll serve as a local office talent leader overseeing staffing and professional development for Senior Managers, Managers, and Senior Consultants.

You’ll build deep, trusted relationships with individuals across these cohorts and help them navigate staffing, performance, professional development, and career decisions. At the same time, you’ll balance individual priorities with client and business needs and provide leadership across the broader Texas Program Management team.

You’ll be a trusted advisor to colleagues at all levels and play an important role in shaping careers, building effective teams, and supporting the culture and talent strategy of the office.

What You’ll Do

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead Senior Manager staffing, primarily within General Practice, partnering with the Talent Vice President and Partners to understand staffing needs and connect Senior Managers with opportunities that support both their long‑term development and business needs.
  • Partner with office and regional leadership to balance client service, utilization, retention, price realization, and investment considerations in staffing decisions.
  • Oversee local participation in Texas capacity and pipeline planning, supporting accurate and transparent pipeline information and effective cross-office staffing decisions.
  • Manage Senior Manager client development requests within the local office.
  • Lead staffing for Managers and Senior Consultants, balancing commercial and individual priorities, case complexity, development needs, and promotion readiness.
  • Serve as Program Manager for Managers approaching their Senior Manager promotion window and oversee the overall Manager promotion program.
  • Serve as Program Manager for Senior Consultants, assessing professional development needs, staffing opportunities, and individual preferences.
  • Provide senior leadership for case-team staffing, helping the staffing team navigate complex trade‑offs between commercial and people priorities and escalating the most challenging situations when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Program Management colleagues to evaluate proposed team staffing and advise on critical people decisions and cross‑Texas staffing needs.
  • Lead professional development for Senior Managers, Managers, and Senior Consultants, including review of case‑end and consensus feedback, performance ratings, and required follow‑up actions.
  • Build strong one‑on‑one relationships with individuals in your cohorts, providing career guidance, mentoring, and support.
  • Monitor staffing experiences to help ensure individuals gain exposure to a variety of consulting projects and development opportunities.
  • Provide leadership on cohort calibration and participate in the biannual performance feedback process for consultants across Texas.
  • Serve as the local office staffing lead for Senior Manager promotion discussions and provide decision support to the Texas Senior Manager Promotion Committee.
  • Lead New Senior Manager and New Manager orientations every six months.
  • Manage Senior Manager Building Bain assignments in partnership with the local Office Head and provide input on recruiting, mentorship, and training allocations.
  • Partner with office leaders, Class Champions, and Class Captains to strengthen cohort connectivity, learning, and development.
  • Monitor performance‑support needs and interventions.
  • Advise Recruiting and office leadership on talent pyramid needs, external hiring, interviewing, leveling, and closing.
  • Partner with Recruiting and leadership on intern staffing, performance assessments, future class needs, and selected marketing activities.
  • Lead onboarding and integration for external hires in partnership with Recruiting and local office leadership.
  • Support regional changes affecting the Senior Manager experience.
  • Partner with HR on employee relations, employment policy, and related matters.
  • Serve as a leader or co‑owner of selected people initiatives prioritized by the local office.
  • Support cross‑Texas staffing and, when needed, cross‑regional staffing by recommending key actions and staffing decisions.
About You

Required qualifications and capabilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Exceptional people and teaming skills, with demonstrated strategic thinking, analytical capability, and business judgment.
  • Ability to structure complex and ambiguous business problems and develop practical strategic recommendations.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Comfort operating in an environment with ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • Excellent stakeholder‑management and influencing skills across senior leadership groups.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and adapt across a wide variety of audiences.
  • Proven coaching and people‑leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and develop colleagues.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross‑functional strategic initiatives within complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Experience partnering with senior executives on strategic planning, business analysis, or enterprise initiatives.
  • Experience leading and developing high‑performing professional teams.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to other Texas offices as required.
  • This role follows a hybrid model, requiring in‑office presence at least four days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bain experience as a General Consulting Senior Manager.
  • MBA or another advanced degree.

You’ll be most successful in this role if you can combine strategic perspective with a strong understanding of individual development. You’re comfortable making decisions when priorities compete or information is incomplete, and you build the trust needed to advise colleagues on complex staffing and career decisions.
