JOB DESCRIPTION

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Public and Community Relations:

  • Acts as the primary local contact point for all external constituencies including chambers of commerce, local/county/state/federal government agencies, and other community-based organizations for specifically assigned centers and ensures that other Center Directors are acting in this capacity at their locations.
  • Responsible for developing networks and partnerships in close collaboration with the Senior Director, Partnerships.
  • In collaboration with Marketing & Communications, develops and implements plans to promote the center. Establishes and maintains positive business relationships with donors, community leaders and other agencies providing services to the visually impaired within the center location(s). May conduct presentations, seminars and represent the center through speaking engagements and appearances at special events.

Center Operations:

  • Directs the day-to-day operations of two centers and provides oversight to remaining centers with those center directors reporting to this role. May rely upon a combination of internal resources and external contracted resources to ensure safe and orderly operations exist.
  • Works closely with Facilities to ensure the safety and maintenance of facilities, including buildings, grounds, and vehicles. Assures compliance with rules, regulations, documentation and safety requirements for facilities and vehicles.
  • Ensures maintenance of accurate and timely record keeping for the center, including donation receipts, deposits, and acknowledgment of donated funds. Prepares and submits progress reports and statistics to management for review. Reviews and approves invoices, purchases, expense reports, and team time and attendance.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Program Officer and Vice President of Programs & Services in developing and monitoring center budget(s), goals, objectives, and strategic plans. Communicates goals, objectives and plans to direct and indirect team members.
  • May assist the auxiliary with local issues or needs, including providing meeting time and space at the center, reaching out to the local community and providing staff resources to help during an event.
  • Identifies opportunities to maximize the use of center space and resources through events, rentals, and other revenue-generating activities.
  • Coordinates with the service managers for areas represented at the location.
  • Provides center specific communications to all constituents (team members, patrons, students) for internal and external events and activities. Acts as the lead culture agent for the center ensuring that Braille Institute of America culture is developed at the center level.
  • Accountable for general management responsibilities, including recruitment, hiring, training/development of direct team members and appraisal of performance including corrective action issues, as necessary. Directs and motivates staff to achieve goals, maximize productivity and promote teamwork.
  • Provides performance feedback/input to Managers for all non-direct report team members. This includes Orientation and Mobility Specialist, Occupational Therapist, Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant, Access Technology, Facilities, and other non-direct reports.
  • Develops and directs efforts to build staff/volunteer awareness of the organization's values, programs, and services. Recognizes staff and volunteer achievements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. As the organization continues to evolve, duties or tasks may change without impacting the overall Job Description.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Depending on the center, directly supervises all Center Directors and center administration/office manager team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge and Education:

A minimum four-year college degree or the equivalent in additional work experience is preferred. Strong knowledge of business operations/budget management, marketing/fundraising techniques, and program development/implementation required.

Skills and Abilities:

Position requires excellent communication, presentation, leadership, decision making, organization, problem solving, team building and marketing skills. The ability to motivate staff and effectively manage regional operations is needed.

Experience:

At least five years of progressively responsible experience in leadership and management of business operations is strongly preferred. Work experience with non-profit organizations, as well as the visually impaired and/or disabled community is desirable. Exceptional interpersonal skills, relationship builder, managing a team, and experience with multi-site operations are required.

Certifications/licenses:

A valid driver's license is needed.

Position works in a standard office environment.

Physical Requirements:

Position operates with standard office equipment.

Salary range:

$155,000-$175,000
