Responsibilities

  • Lead operational support for the Boston Partner Program, including partner staffing, utilization, productivity, and development.
  • Coordinate partner communications, leadership meetings, learning programs, and coaching initiatives.
  • Manage annual talent processes, including partner reviews, promotions, and onboarding of new Partners.
  • Support commercial operations through business performance reporting, dashboards, forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • Monitor office performance metrics, including utilization, staffing, recruiting outcomes, and pricing.
  • Partner with office leadership to develop strategic insights and recommendations.
  • Lead internal communication strategy, executive presentations, and office-wide messaging for Partners and leadership.
  • Help shape major office initiatives, leadership meetings, and engagement activities aligning with business objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Office Head and senior leadership on priorities and planning.

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You'll join Bain's Global & Local Operations team, partnering closely with the Boston Office Head and senior leaders across the office. In this highly collaborative role, you'll work alongside Partners, practice leaders, staffing and talent teams, and other functional leaders to help drive commercial excellence, strengthen office operations, and support strategic initiatives that shape the success of one of Bain's largest offices.

WHERE YOU'LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM

As Senior Director, Business Operations, you'll play a critical leadership role supporting the Boston Office Head in managing commercial operations and the Boston Partner Program. You'll help optimize partner capacity, utilization, and business performance while leading key operational initiatives, communications, and strategic planning efforts. This is a highly visible role requiring exceptional analytical thinking, relationship management, and executive communication skills.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead operational support for the Boston Partner Program, including partner staffing, utilization, productivity, and professional development.
  • Coordinate partner communications, leadership meetings, learning programs, and coaching initiatives throughout the year.
  • Manage key annual talent processes, including partner reviews, HLA planning, compensation inputs, promotion processes, and onboarding of new Partners.
  • Support commercial operations through business performance reporting, dashboards, forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • Monitor key office performance metrics, including utilization, staffing availability, recruiting outcomes, and pricing performance.
  • Partner with office leadership to develop strategic insights, analytics, and recommendations that support business priorities.
  • Lead internal communication strategy, executive presentations, and office-wide messaging for Partners and leadership.
  • Help shape major office initiatives, leadership meetings, and engagement activities while ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Office Head and senior leadership on operational priorities, organizational initiatives, and business planning.
ABOUT YOU

We're looking for someone who combines operational excellence with strong leadership and communication skills. Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of progressive management experience, ideally within consulting or a professional services environment.
  • Deep understanding of consulting organizations and partner-led business operations.
  • Outstanding analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and executive communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage highly confidential information with discretion.
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Working Model

This role follows a hybrid model and requires in-office presence at least four days per week.

U.S. Compensation Information

Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain's best-in-class benefits package.

Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range to be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:

  • In Boston, Massachusetts, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $236,000 and $289,250. Placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, certifications, training, and skill level.
  • Annual discretionary performance bonus.
  • This role may also be eligible for additional discretionary compensation.
  • 4.5% 401(k) company contribution, which increases after three years of service and is fully vested upon start date.
