The Senior Director, Benefits & Health Management leads the development and execution of strategic vision for benefits and health management aligned with company values and business objectives. This role partners cross functionally to enhance program effectiveness, maintain regulatory compliance, and deliver meaningful value to associates. Reporting to the VP, HR Performance Systems, the Senior Director provides direct oversight of a leadership team that includes 3 Directors, 4 Sr. Managers and 2 Managers.
With a deep understanding of the evolving healthcare landscape and workforce needs, the Senior Director partners cross-functionally with HR, Legal, Finance, Communications, and external vendors to ensure programs are competitive, compliant, cost-effective, and deliver meaningful value to associates and their families. This leader champions a data-driven, associate-centric approach to benefits strategy, fostering a culture of well-being, engagement, and inclusion across the organization.
The position includes leading:
• Benefits Strategy & Innovation: Oversees the design and implementation of comprehensive benefits packages, ensuring alignment with business goals and associate needs.
• Healthy Living Program: Leads a long-standing initiative that educates associates on their health status and empowers early intervention.
• Annual Enrollment Campaigns: Drives creative, multi-channel campaigns to boost benefits engagement—launching themed initiatives featuring print, digital, podcast, and gamified elements to increase enrollment participation.
• Health & Wellness: Includes paid sick leave for all employment types,
comprehensive medical insurance, and wellness resources. These are designed to promote well-being and reduce absenteeism.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership (20%)
Develop and execute a long-term vision for benefits and health management aligned with business goals and workforce needs.
Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on benefits trends, risks, and opportunities.
Lead enterprise-wide initiatives to enhance associate well-being and engagement.
Program Design & Management (20%)
Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of health and wellness programs.
Ensure programs are competitive, cost-effective, and aligned with market trends and associate expectations.
Continuously evaluate program performance and recommend enhancements based on data and feedback.
Ensure all benefit programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA).
Cross-Functional Collaboration (20%)
Partner with HR, Finance, Legal, Communications, and external vendors to ensure seamless program delivery.
Lead cross-functional teams to implement new programs, systems, and processes.
Manage relationships with third-party administrators, consultants, and carriers.
Negotiate contracts and monitor service levels to ensure high-quality delivery.
Associate Experience & Communication (20%)
Champion a best-in-class associate experience through clear, engaging, and inclusive benefits communication.
Leverage technology and digital tools to enhance access, education, and engagement.
Gather and act on associate feedback to continuously improve offerings.
Positions typically reports to: Vice President – HR Performance Systems
Number of direct reports: 3-5
Travel: Typically requires overnight travel 5-20% of the time
Physical Requirements: Most of the time spent sitting in a comfortable position.
Working Conditions: Located in a comfortable indoor area, any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Work Experience: 10+ years of previous related work experience.
