Job summary

Schneider National in Chicago, IL seeks a Diesel Shop Manager to lead our shop, increase equipment availability and reduce repair costs. You will drive safety, financial accountability, and strong teamwork across departments.

The role requires a technical degree in diesel technology, 4-6 years of diesel technician experience, and prior shop leadership experience is preferred. Weekend work may be required at times.

Qualifications

• A technical degree in diesel technology or related field.
• 4-6 years of diesel technician experience.
• Previous shop leadership experience preferred.
• Previous transportation industry experience preferred.

• Address any unsafe behaviors to ensure safety compliance.
• Be accountable for all maintenance costs, equipment availability and repair decisions within the shop.
• Have strong communication with other areas of the business to understand needs and priority of equipment.
• Be responsible for maintaining appropriate parts inventory.
• Oversee the budget for the shop, including expenses related to tires, tooling, miscellaneous items and overtime.
• Assign work to shop associates and maintain an open line of communication with associates.
• Perform live work order audits and performance audits of shop associates.
• Set performance goals for the shop as a whole and for individual shop associates.
• Ensure the shop is properly staffed from a technician and leader standpoint.
