Job summary

Siemens Mobility is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer – Engine Systems Mobility Customer Services to support diesel engine system aftermarket activities.

Based in Sacramento, CA or other listed locations, this role focuses on improving durability, reliability, and cost effectiveness through hands-on analysis and cross-functional collaboration. You will work with quality, manufacturing, supply chain, field service, and suppliers to evaluate hardware, perform teardown analyses, and drive solutions

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
• 5+ years experience with diesel engine systems.
• Hands-on teardown, rebuild, component evaluation.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and engineering design tools.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, thermal expansion, fatigue, and mechanical design.
• Experience supporting supplier qualification and second sourcing.
• Strong technical writing and ability to communicate complex concepts.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering requirements, specs, validation plans, and BOMs to meet performance and service targets.
• Perform root cause analysis and translate findings into corrective actions.
• Conduct hands-on hardware evaluations, teardown, measurement, analysis, redesign, and validation.
• Identify and qualify alternative suppliers through technical reviews and capability assessments.
• Define reuse criteria, wear limits, inspection methods, and acceptance standards for overhaul and remanufacturing.
• Recommend design and process improvements to extend component life and reduce lifecycle cost.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to move solutions from analysis to implementation.
• Support customer-facing discussions with clear technical explanations and recommendations.
• Create technical documentation, test reports, validation records, CAD models, drawings, and write-ups for traceability.
• Maintain engineering data and BOM information in SAP or equivalent systems.
