Job summary

Siemens is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Diesel Engine Systems to support aftermarket and service engineering activities, focusing on improving component performance, reliability, and cost effectiveness.

The role involves collaboration with quality, manufacturing, supply chain, field service, and suppliers to evaluate engine hardware and develop practical solutions for overhaul and remanufacturing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience with diesel engine systems.
• Hands-on teardown, rebuild, and component evaluation.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling and engineering design tools.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, thermal expansion, fatigue behavior, and mechanical design principles.
• Experience supporting supplier qualification and second sourcing initiatives.
• Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
• Ability to travel 25% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering requirements, specifications, validation plans, and BOMs to meet performance and service targets.
• Perform root cause analysis on engine systems and components to improve durability and fleet reliability.
• Conduct teardown, measurement, analysis, redesign, and validation for overhaul and aftermarket programs.
• Identify, evaluate, and qualify alternative suppliers through technical reviews.
• Define reuse criteria, wear limits, inspection methods, and acceptance standards.
• Recommend design/process improvements to extend component life and reduce lifecycle cost.
• Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, supply chain, test engineering, field service, and supplier teams.
• Create technical documentation, test reports, CAD models, drawings, and engineering write-ups for traceability.
• Maintain engineering data and BOM information in SAP or equivalent systems.
