Job summary

Butler County Regional Transit Authority seeks a master-level Diagnostician / Mechanic Trainer to figure out what’s really wrong, spell out fixes, and raise the entire shop’s diagnostic skills. This is a teaching role for those who have seen it all in heavy‑duty diesel and want to multiply expertise across the team.

You’ll mentor technicians, service writers, and apprentices, turning complex problems into actionable work orders and safer, faster repairs.

Qualifications

• Extensive heavy-duty diesel experience with buses and trucks.
• Expertise in Cummins powertrains, engines, aftertreatment, and emissions.
• ASE and OEM/Cummins certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Be the shop’s go-to diagnostician who chases down faults nobody else can crack, from Cummins powertrain and aftertreatment issues to electrical, electronic, and hydraulic gremlins.
• Scope the work before the wrench turns; identify root cause, parts, and exact service tasks to package jobs for technicians.
• Work with service writers and technicians, turning diagnoses into clean, executable work orders.
• Teach, coach, and level up the team's diagnostic skills hands-on and by example.
• Get hands dirty: road-testing, verifying repairs, and confirming vehicles are safe to return to service.
• Help cut downtime by pre-staging parts and catching recurring failures before they park a bus.
