12 month Contract Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps / Site Reliability / Automation Engineer for a 12-month contract opportunity. This individual will play a key role in designing, building, automating, and maintaining a modern AWS cloud infrastructure while supporting the transition from a legacy technology environment.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled, hands-on engineer with deep AWS expertise, strong infrastructure automation capabilities, and experience establishing DevOps best practices.

This role requires someone who can work independently, take ownership of critical infrastructure initiatives, and ensure the reliability, security, scalability, and performance of cloud-based systems.

Experience working with legacy enterprise technologies, including AIX, Java, DB2, and traditional application servers, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available AWS infrastructure.
  • Establish and manage isolated AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) environments, including VPC peering and connectivity with external enterprise systems such as Broadridge.
  • Deploy and manage containerized applications using AWS ECS Fargate, Amazon ECR, and Docker.
  • Configure and maintain AWS services, including RDS, CloudFront, Route 53, WAF, Cognito, Lambda, IAM, KMS, and Secrets Manager.
  • Implement and maintain secure networking, access controls, encryption, and infrastructure security best practices.
  • Design highly available infrastructure using Multi-AZ architectures, automated backups, and disaster recovery strategies.
DevOps, CI/CD & Automation
  • Design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines to support automated application deployments and infrastructure changes.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Build and optimize deployment workflows using GitHub Actions.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, release processes, and routine operational tasks.
  • Develop automation scripts using Python, Bash, and other appropriate scripting tools.
  • Establish standardized DevOps processes, documentation, and engineering best practices.
Site Reliability & Production Operations
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions using AWS CloudWatch and OpenTelemetry.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, application performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, infrastructure issues, and deployment failures.
  • Develop and maintain backup, recovery, and business continuity procedures.
  • Improve system resilience, operational efficiency, and release reliability.
  • Support troubleshooting across cloud infrastructure, networking, databases, and application environments.
Legacy Systems Modernization & Migration
  • Support the transition from legacy enterprise infrastructure to a modern AWS-based environment.
  • Work with existing technologies such as IBM AIX, Java, DB2, CRON, and Payara/GlassFish application servers.
  • Assist with migration planning, infrastructure integration, and application deployment transitions.
  • Identify opportunities to automate legacy operational processes and improve system reliability.
  • Ensure compatibility and connectivity between legacy systems and the new AWS infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to minimize operational disruption during the transition.
Required Qualifications:
  • Extensive hands-on experience in DevOps engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, cloud infrastructure, or a closely related role.
  • Strong production experience designing, deploying, and managing AWS infrastructure.
  • Deep understanding of AWS networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, and VPC peering.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS ECS/Fargate, ECR, and Docker-based container deployments.
  • Experience managing relational databases in AWS RDS, particularly Oracle and PostgreSQL.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Experience building and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitHub Actions.
  • Proficiency with Linux administration, Bash scripting, and Python automation.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging, and observability using CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, or comparable technologies.
  • Understanding of AWS security services and best practices, including IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, and WAF.
  • Experience implementing high availability, Multi-AZ resilience, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, applications, databases, and networking.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of technical initiatives, and establish DevOps processes with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with legacy enterprise environments, particularly IBM AIX, Java, IBM DB2, and CRON.
  • Familiarity with Payara or GlassFish application servers.
  • Experience supporting legacy-to-cloud infrastructure migrations or modernization projects.
  • Knowledge of Kafka client networking, connectivity, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with AWS Cognito, CloudFront, Route 53, and Lambda.
