Job summary

Raft is building mission-critical data platforms for the Department of War, processing billions of events daily. Senior DevOps Engineer will work across cloud and on‑prem environments, contributing to code and pipelines while ensuring secure, observable deployments at scale.

The role emphasizes end-to-end responsibility from data ingest to Kubernetes deployment, with a focus on DevSecOps in regulated government contexts and up to 25% travel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps or platform engineering roles.
• 5+ years of production experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including provisioning and troubleshooting clusters.
• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitLab CI, GitOps (Flux, ArgoCD), and modern delivery practices.
• Experience with streaming/data platforms (Kafka, Flink) and data governance concepts.
• Infrastructure as Code proficiency (Terraform; Ansible or similar).
• Experience with platform observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Fluentbit).
• Hands-on software development in Java and/or Go, able to read/modify code.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain secure Kubernetes-based infrastructure across cloud and on-prem environments.
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI and GitOps patterns for multi-classification deployments.
• Develop and manage IaC with Terraform and Ansible to provision platform infrastructure.
• Collaborate with software engineers to understand service architectures and improve deployability and observability.
• Support and optimize data streaming pipelines using Kafka, Flink, and related tech; diagnose bottlenecks and ensure data integrity.
• Implement platform observability with Prometheus, Grafana, Fluentbit, and Kibana-like tooling.
• Apply DevSecOps practices including container hardening and supply chain security in regulated environments.
• Manage Helm charts, Istio service mesh, and multi-cluster Kubernetes networking across environments.
• Support AWS/Azure cloud infra, networking, IAM, and storage; adapt patterns to edge/on-prem deployments.
• Contribute code changes in Java or Go to improve platform operations and developer experience.
• Engage with customers at operational locations in the DoW context.
