Job description

Senior DevOps Engineer

Department: 508 Production Operations

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Remote, United States of America

Compensation: $125,000 - $140,000 / year

Description

At EIS, DevOps ownership spans the complete path from cloud foundation to a running application. We are looking for a senior, hands-on engineer who can connect AWS infrastructure, secure networking, platform services, CI/CD, and application deployment into one reliable delivery system.

You will design and provision AWS environments, automate configuration, build delivery pipelines, deploy and configure EIS Suite applications, operate Kubernetes workloads, and troubleshoot issues across the stack. You will work closely with developers, QA engineers, architects, project managers, and customers. This role offers genuine end-to-end ownership, influence over technical standards, and the opportunity to mentor other engineers. EIS One Suite is delivered as a SaaS product, so your decisions directly influence the availability, security, scalability, performance, observability, release experience, and cloud efficiency that customers depend on.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own solutions end to end - from AWS infrastructure and network design through CI/CD, application configuration, deployment, observability, and production support.
  • Design and evolve secure, highly available AWS environments, including customer connectivity and hybrid-cloud integrations.
  • Build reusable Terraform modules and maintain clean, reviewed, version-controlled infrastructure code with controlled change and minimal drift.
  • Design, improve, and operate Jenkins delivery pipelines and their GitLab integrations, including pipeline-as-code and Groovy-based automation.
  • Deploy and operate containerized services on Amazon EKS using Docker, Helm, and YAML-based configuration.
  • Automate Linux and platform configuration with Ansible, including the installation and lifecycle of services such as GitLab, Jenkins, Nexus, SonarQube, and OpenGrok.
  • Operate GitOps-based EIS Suite deployments across development, pre-production, and production environments through Argo CD, using GitLab as the configuration source and cloud-hosted Helm and container registries as artifact sources.
  • Implement and troubleshoot AWS networking, DNS, load balancing, identity, permissions, and secure access using least-privilege principles.
  • Build actionable monitoring, logging, dashboards, and alerts; lead diagnosis of complex incidents across cloud, platform, pipeline, and application-delivery layers.
  • Embed security and quality controls into automation, including privileged access, secrets handling, code quality, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Improve engineering standards, create clear operational guidance, review technical solutions, and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools thoughtfully to improve automation, code quality, documentation, troubleshooting, and delivery workflows, with appropriate security, review, and human oversight.
  • Help evolve the internal developer platform as a shared cross-department capability: gather feedback from engineering and delivery teams, contribute reusable self-service patterns and platform improvements, and share ownership of adoption and outcomes across departments.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

We look for depth in AWS cloud and platform engineering, supported by strong hands-on capability across the adjacent delivery lifecycle. Equal mastery of every tool is not required; what matters is the ability to own, deploy, and troubleshoot EIS Suite environments end to end and to deepen adjacent skills.

Core dept

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering, site reliability engineering, or a closely related role.
  • Deep practical knowledge of AWS architecture and services, including EKS, IAM, VPC, Security Groups, Route 53, load balancers, EC2, S3, EBS, RDS, and ElastiCache.
  • Strong production experience with Terraform, including module design, state management, code review, and safe infrastructure change.
  • Deep hands-on experience designing, building, troubleshooting, and maintaining Jenkins pipelines, including pipeline-as-code and Groovy automation.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of GitLab as a source-control platform, including repository configuration, access controls, merge-request workflows and code reviews, and integration with Jenkins-based CI/CD pipelines.
  • Solid Linux administration and networking knowledge, including routing, DNS, firewalls, VPN/IPsec, and connectivity troubleshooting.

Strong adjacent capability

  • Hands-on experience with Argo CD and GitOps-based deployment of EIS Suite applications across Kubernetes environments.
  • Strong Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm skills, including deployment configuration, troubleshooting, scaling, and high-availability considerations.
  • Practical experience with Ansible for repeatable software installation and configuration management.
  • Strong Git skills and the ability to automate with Bash and/or Python.
  • Working knowledge of Java application build and delivery ecosystems, including tools such as Maven, and familiarity with artifact repositories.
  • A systems-thinking approach to production troubleshooting, with the ability to follow a problem across multiple technical layers and drive it to resolution.
  • Clear communication, sound technical judgment, and experience collaborating across teams; mentoring or technical leadership experience is expected at senior level.

Broader awareness and useful experience (nice to have)

  • Experience with AWS CloudFormation or AWS CLI in addition to Terraform.
  • Experience with Azure or IBM Cloud and an interest in applying common engineering standards across cloud platforms.
  • Experience with Grafana, Grafana Loki, Prometheus, ELK, or comparable observability platforms.
  • Experience with Datadog for infrastructure and application monitoring, dashboards, alerting, and troubleshooting including configuration of Datadog Application Performance Monitoring (APM) configuration.
  • Experience with CyberArk or another privileged access management platform.
  • Experience with SonarQube, Nexus, OpenGrok, or similar engineering enablement tools.
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
  • Relevant AWS, Kubernetes, security, or infrastructure-as-code certifications.
