Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to support and scale cloud infrastructure in AWS (EKS) and edge on-premise deployments. You will automate deployments, manage Kubernetes clusters, and collaborate with development teams to push applications into production.

The role requires strong Linux, Python/Bash/Go development, and experience with Terraform/Ansible. You will mentor engineers and work on-site in San Antonio, TX several days a week.

Responsibilities

• Drive improvements for high availability and performance
• Mentor and lead engineering teams as needed
• Work on customer site in San Antonio, TX 3–5 days/week

Job description

• Support development and deployment of cloud infrastructure in AWS, especially EKS
• Support development and deployment of non-cloud (Edge) infrastructure on on-premise and portable equipment
• Automate deployment processes and ensure reliability and scalability of services
• Manage and maintain Kubernetes containers and cloud infrastructure on AWS
• Collaborate with development teams to integrate applications into the infrastructure
• Monitor and troubleshoot production systems and resolve issues
• Continuously improve processes and tools to ensure high availability and performance
• Stay current with new technologies and industry trends
• Transition between hands‑on execution and team guidance, including mentorship and team leadership
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Current Top Secret level U.S. Government Security Clearance required
• U.S. Citizenship required
• Must be willing and able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance
• 5+ years of experience in DevOps Engineering or Software Development and Bachelor's degree in a related field; or 3 years of relevant experience with Master's degree in a related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years of relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms
• Strong knowledge of AWS services, especially EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, and Lambda
• Proficiency with Terraform and Ansible
• Experience with application, container, and OS deployment, scaling, and management
• Ability to develop in Python, Bash, or Go
• Familiarity with Git, Flux, and other development and deployment tools
• Comfortable in a terminal-based environment
• Proficient knowledge of Linux, including system administration and troubleshooting
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and standard software development tool suites
• Demonstrated experience serving as a tech lead, mentor, or manager for engineering teams
• Must be willing/able to help open/close the workspace during regular business hours as needed
• Must be able to work on customer site in San Antonio, TX 3–5 days a week
• Preferred: active TS/SCI security clearance
• Preferred: experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Accumulo, Ceph, Spark, NiFi, Kafka, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Hive, Drill, Impala, Trino, and Presto
• Experience with containers, EKS, Diode, CI/CD, and Terraform is a plus
