About The Department

They develop and operate cloud-based software services used by researchers across disciplines. The department has offices at NBC Tower and remote employees.

Job Summary

As a senior member of the Globus Operations team, reporting to the System and Security Operations Manager, you will architect, implement, and operate resilient Cloud infrastructure ensuring security, high performance, high availability, and scalability for Globus platform services. You will integrate services with monitoring, operations, and deployment engineering for effective service management.

Responsibilities

1. Architecture and Design: Lead the definition and documentation of Cloud infrastructure architecture, including monitoring, logging, security, and deployment strategies for production and development environments.
2. Security Operations: Lead implementation and monitoring of security procedures, controls, and compliance reporting. Participate in incident response.
3. SRE/Operations: Deploy, operate, monitor, and maintain production Globus services for high availability.
4. Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to team members and users.
5. System Development: Design new systems, features, and tools; solve complex problems; review and test solutions.
6. Technology Utilization: Apply knowledge of emerging technologies, including cloud services from AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
7. Other Duties: Perform related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

College or university degree in a related field.

Work Experience

5-7 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Experience scripting in Python, Bash for automation.
• Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with AWS services (IAM, VPC, EC2, S3, etc.).
• Networking, firewalls, DNS knowledge.
• Monitoring tools experience (CloudWatch, Nagios).
• Database management (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• Web server and web technology experience.
• Security compliance experience (FedRAMP, HIPAA, FISMA).
• Operational monitoring, incident management skills.

Preferred Competencies

• Understanding of software development practices.
• Experience integrating deployment and monitoring frameworks on cloud platforms.
• Problem-solving skills, workload prioritization, teamwork, confidentiality.

Working Conditions

• Occasional evening/weekend hours.
• Remote work with occasional in-person meetings.
