Job summary

OpenAI is hiring a Device Safety & Risk Operations Specialist in San Francisco. This senior IC will build a safety operating model for a new consumer hardware category, turning emerging risks and incomplete requirements into durable workflows and systems.

You will define how incidents are identified, investigated, escalated, resolved, and learned from, and stand up priority workflows through launch and early operations while coordinating with USRO and partner teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of device safety or related experience.
• Experience building complex safety/risk programs from ambiguity through launch.
• Experience with privacy-sensitive data workflows and regulated processes.

Responsibilities

• Build the end-to-end safety and risk operating model for new consumer hardware.
• Define incident taxonomies, severity levels, escalation criteria, and response pathways.
• Develop playbooks for safety incidents, critical escalations, and safety advisories.
• Design workflows for regulated and privacy-sensitive cases with auditability.
• Translate safety needs into tooling, data access, logging, and automation.
• Establish ownership boundaries across Product, Eng, Legal, Privacy, Policy, Support, and QA.
