Job summary

The Town of Portola Valley seeks a skilled Senior Development Review Technician or Senior Development Review Technician / Building Inspector to handle advanced technical planning and building support. You will manage the full permit lifecycle, review complex plans, and supervise permit systems and staff as needed.

The role emphasizes independent work, adherence to standards, and collaboration with the Planning and Building Department to enhance community vitality and quality of life.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in land-use planning, real estate, construction management or related field.
• An Associate's Degree will also be accepted with additional experience.
• Possession of a valid California Driver's License and related certifications are desired.

Responsibilities

• Guide applicants through the full permit lifecycle from application to issuance, providing responsive service at the counter, by phone, email, and virtual meetings.
• Conduct complex plan reviews for planning and building conformance and process staff-level site development permits.
• Process staff-level permits including fences, zoning, and horse keeping permits.
• Serve as administrator for the Town's permit tracking software and train staff and consultants.
• Coordinate with code enforcement staff; conduct field investigations and respond to complaints.
• Provide technical and administrative support to the Planning Commission, ASCC, and related committees.
• Track permit volumes, prepare reports and analysis, and create maps using the Town's GIS system.
