Job summary

Manatee County Government is seeking a Development Review Specialist/Senior Development Review Specialist to assess zoning, land use, and development proposals at Lakewood Ranch and surrounding areas. You will coordinate with review agencies and prepare findings for public boards.

The role requires strong planning knowledge, GIS and MS Office skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with officials, developers, and the public. A relevant degree or extensive field experience is expected.

Qualifications

• High School graduate/equivalent.
• Two (2) or more years of experience in planning, construction, zoning, land use regulation or engineering, or bachelor's degree in planning, engineering, construction, architecture or similar field.
• Bachelor's degree in planning, engineering, construction, architecture or similar field; may substitute 4 years professional experience in lieu of degree.

Responsibilities

• Reviews proposed re-zonings, special permits, site plans, plats and building permits for regulatory requirements.
• Coordinates the review of subdivision plats and traffic studies, concurrency and plan reviews; prepares graphics for Board Presentations.
• Conducts detailed review of construction plans and site plans for compliance with applicable standards.
• Prepares written reports of findings and provides assistance to the public and development community regarding appropriate design parameters.
• Responds to the general public when required.
• Visits project sites to ensure compliance with conditions.
• May track bonds and agreements.
• Monitors projects for compliance with approval conditions.
• Determines proper process for various development proposals.
• Performs other related duties as assigned, including participation in emergency or disaster response activities.
