Ecopetrol Permian seeks a high-performing Development Petrophysicist to support strategic development of Delaware and Midland Basin assets, delivering reservoir characterization and reserves assessments through advanced petrophysical workflows.

Based in Houston, you will integrate data across teams, drive landzone evaluations, and contribute to opportunities ranking while maintaining rigorous model quality and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petrophysics, Geoscience, Engineering or related field required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the oil and gas industry required.
  • Strong understanding of petrophysical interpretation workflows, including log analysis, core integration, formation evaluation, saturation modelling, and uncertainty assessment are required.
  • Experience supporting appraisal, development planning, reserves/resource evaluations, and unconventional reservoir characterization required.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard petrophysical software (Techlog) required.
  • Familiarity with Permian Basin reservoirs and unconventional development practices is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical findings to multidisciplinary teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply standardized petrophysical workflows using open-hole, cased-hole, core, mudlog, image log, and engineering data to deliver consistent interpretations across the acreage.
  • Interpret mineralogy, lithology, organic content, porosity, saturation, fluid properties, pore pressure, elastic properties, reservoir quality, and flow indicators for unconventional reservoirs.
  • Support appraisal, development planning, landing-zone selection, drilling-window definition, inventory maturation, and opportunity ranking with integrated petrophysical insights.
  • Generate petrophysical inputs for mapping, geomodeling, reserves, resource progression, type-curve support, and OOIP estimates.
  • Collaborate with geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering, completion engineering, operations, reserves, and data analytics to integrate petrophysics into multidisciplinary decisions.
  • Maintain, update, and quality-control petrophysical models, raw/edited/synthetic logs, interpretations, assumptions, and workflow documentation in accordance with corporate data standards.
  • Support reserves and resource classification processes by providing defensible petrophysical assumptions, uncertainty ranges, and documentation.
  • Evaluate and recommend petrophysical service providers and fit-for-purpose technologies when needed, balancing technical value, cost, and business impact.
  • Share lessons learned, best practices, and workflow improvements with the broader Ecopetrol organization to strengthen unconventional knowledge transfer.
