Job summary

Blue Cross NC is seeking a senior automation engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain automation solutions across on-premises and cloud platforms. You will lead AI-enabled automation initiatives and partner with engineering, architecture, and business teams to deliver scalable solutions.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of experience, a degree or equivalent, and expertise in UiPath, Power Automate, Python, and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain automation solutions, integrations, scripts, reports, and AI-enabled solutions using best-suited technologies.
• Write clean, testable, maintainable code following established software engineering standards.
• Develop reusable frameworks, tools, and automation patterns with approved technologies.
• Partner with engineering, architecture, infrastructure, and business teams to translate complex needs into technical solutions.
• Support CI/CD, automated testing, deployment, and DevOps across development environments.
• Troubleshoot complex development and production issues and improve reliability and performance.
• Build reporting and monitoring capabilities.
• Evaluate and implement generative AI use cases with testing and security compliance.

Job description

Responsible for the design, development, testing, automation, and support of complex on-premises and cloud-based software and technology solutions. This role will help advance the Center of Excellence by delivering solutions across enterprise automation suites, application integration, scripting, reporting, and AI-enabled automation. The ideal candidate brings strong software engineering fundamentals, hands‑on automation platform experience, and the ability to learn and apply different technologies across a variety of complex assignments.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain automation solutions, integrations, scripts, reports, and AI-enabled solutions using the technologies best suited to each business need.
• Write clean, testable, maintainable code following established software engineering standards.
• Develop reusable frameworks, tools, and automation patterns using company-approved technologies.
• Partner with engineering, architecture, infrastructure, and business teams to translate complex needs into technical solutions.
• Support CI/CD, automated testing, deployment, and DevOps practices across development environments.
• Troubleshoot complex development and production issues and implement solutions that improve reliability and performance.
• Build reporting and monitoring capabilities.
• Evaluate and implement generative AI use cases with appropriate testing, human oversight, and adherence to security and data‑handling standards.
• Research emerging technologies and provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required)
• 5+ years of experience in related field.
• In lieu of degree, 7+ years of experience in related field.

Bonus Points

• Experience with enterprise automation suites, with a strong preference for UiPath. Experience with Microsoft Power Automate is also valued.
• Supporting experience in one or more of the following: Python, .NET/C#, PowerShell, Power BI, or generative AI for AI-assisted workflows and automation.
• Experience with AWS services and cloud automation.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar technologies.
• Experience creating reusable automation frameworks or capabilities within a Center of Excellence, platform engineering, DevOps, or enterprise technology organization.
• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, security automation, and cloud governance practices.

Salary Range

At Blue Cross NC, we take great pride in a fair and equitable compensation package that reflects market-price and our starting salaries are typically planned near the middle of the range listed. Compensation decisions are driven by factors including experience and training, specialized skill sets, licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. Our base salary is part of a robust Total Rewards package that includes an Annual Incentive Bonus*, 401(k) with employer match, Paid Time Off (PTO), and competitive health benefits and wellness programs.

$107,901.00 - $172,642.00

*Based on annual corporate goal achievement and individual performance.
