Job summary

J.Crew Group in New York, NY seeks a Senior Designer for Women’s Outerwear and Tailoring to lead concept to production across jackets, coats, and structured leather. You will drive fabric, silhouette, and fit innovations while mentoring a design team.

You will partner with Merchandising and Production to protect the vision, communicate CAD artwork, and deliver commercially strong capsules with premium materials.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive apparel design experience, focused on outerwear or structured wovens.
• Experience mentoring and developing a design team.
• Strong fabric, silhouette, and detail/fit/finish development.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite for artwork, tech packs, and boards; knowledge of Miro and Procreate.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills; ability to lead multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of women’s outerwear, tailored separates, and structured leather apparel each season from concept to production samples.
• Conduct global research on seasonal silhouette, color, and fabric innovations, translating findings into viable direction.
• Develop and source premium fabrics, yarns, trims, leather treatments, hardware, and construction techniques.
• Lead fittings for outerwear and suiting, ensuring impeccable garment construction and tailoring standards.
• Partner with Merchandising, Production, and Technical Design to protect product integrity and maximize gross margin.
• Manage, mentor, and coach assistant designers, driving accountability and creative growth.
